Be a Digital Champion
17th Oct 2014
Newlon Fusion, our community regeneration partner, in partnership with Student@Home, our digital inclusion project partners, are launching the Newlon Digital Champions Project.
They are looking to recruit 10 volunteers who will train to become Newlon’s Digital Champions. These volunteers will help reduce digital exclusion within their local community by enhancing the online capabilities and IT skills of their fellow residents. They will also support older people to overcome isolation by becoming better connected.
Student@Home will induct and train the volunteers. Following the training these 10 Digital Champions will be expected to help participating residents within the Newlon Housing community by providing a minimum of 2 hours of computer and internet support.
Digital Champions will visit households to do the following:
- Provide tutorials on computer and internet skills
- Solve problems with email and internet
- Search for and remove computer viruses
- Give advice on software and hardware
- Maintain and help set up computers, printers and scanners
- Access online shopping and other services
- Use Skype
Digital Champions will receive full comprehensive training and a free wifi-enabled, 16GB 7″ Cyclone Voyager Android Tablet.
If you are interested in helping your local community by volunteering as a Digital Champion then please email knajjingo@newlonfusion.org.uk or call 020 7033 4572.
