Step Forward employment programme logoEmployment support

Our Financial Inclusion team can provide employment advice to support and mentor you into work, as well as apprenticeship and work experience opportunities. These services are part of our Step Forward programme that helps Newlon residents to stay ahead of the competition and find a job. You can gain valuable work experience to open up routes to a range of careers.

Many of the staff at Newlon are residents, empowering and upskilling them and enabling them to directly help to develop and shape our services.

Work placements

An exciting part of Step Forward is the the work placement scheme. Having a CV with the right experience is what employers look for most, and that’s where this programme can help. We know many residents seeking work have the skills employers want, but just need the opportunity to prove it.

There are a variety of different placements available, to enable people to get the experience that best matches their aspirations. It’s also flexible, as each placement is designed to fit around residents’ existing commitments. A large number of Newlon residents have managed to secure employment, including roles within Newlon.

Please note that some placements are unpaid. However, travel expenses and lunch will be provided for the duration.

Apprenticeships

There are also apprenticeship opportunities for Newlon residents, open to all ages. These focus on developing skills within specific areas, under the supervision of more experienced staff, which can help apprentices move forward in their careers.
